Hacknet

Hacknet is a terminal-based hacking simulator. You follow directions from a deceased hacker named Bit, whose death might not be the accident reported by the media. After Bit fails to reconnect to his system for 14 days, an automated failsafe sends emails to you. You must solve the mystery of his death and prevent Hacknet-OS from falling into the wrong hands.

You use real hacking processes and old school command prompts to break through firewalls. The game is based on actual UNIX commands instead of Hollywood-style hacking. You explore a persistent virtual world without levels or obvious game elements. The design allows people without terminal experience to understand the applications and commands. The game explores corporate greed, personal privacy, and the hidden powers of hackers.
